  45.       Converting NetWare SNA Gateway Configuration Information to a
  46.                           NetWare for SAA profile

  48. This conversion utility transfers configuration information on PU and
  49. dependent LUs from the NetWare SNA Gateway (version 1.2, 1.3, or 1.3.01) to
  50. a NetWare for SAA (version 1.1 or 1.2) profile.  The LUs on the NetWare SNA
  51. Gateway are transferred to Public LUs in the profile.  The PU and LUs are
  52. transferred in one of the following two ways:
  53.  
  54. -  A profile is created and PU  information and dependent LU information is
  55. transferred.
  56.  
  57. -  Only dependent LU information is appended to an existing profile.
  58.  
  59. Note that this utility does not transfer NetBIOS and coax information
  60. because they are not supported by NetWare for SAA.  During the transfer,
  61. NetBIOS is converted to SPX and coax is converted to token ring.  Also,
  62. independent LUs are not transferred.
  63.  
  64. BEFORE YOU BEGIN
  65. Make sure that the number of sessions on your version of NetWare for SAA is
  66. equal to or greater than the number of LUs you are transferring from the
  67. NetWare SNA Gateway. If there are more LUs on the NetWare SNA Gateways than
  68. are permitted by your version of NetWare for SAA, upgrade the NetWare for
  69. SAA software or reduce the number of LUs on your SNA gateways.
  70.  
  71. Make sure that NetWare for SAA is installed and the Communication Executive
  72. is running on the server where the information is to be transferred. To
  73. load the Communication Executive, enter the following command at the
  74. NetWare console (:) prompt:
  75.  
  76.      LOAD COMMEXEC
  77.

  79. NetWare Communication Services Administration Guide or the NetWare for SAA
  80. v1.2 Administration Guide.

  82. INSTALLING THE FILES
  83. Copy the following files from the floppy diskette to a directory on your
  84. hard disk:
  85.

  87.      DBU$MSG.DAT
  88.      DBU$HELP.DAT
  89.      DBU$ERR.DAT
  90.      IBM$DBU.OVL
  91.  
  92. RUNNING THE CONVERSION UTILITY
  93. Perform the following steps to transfer the PU and LU configuration
  94. information on your NetWare SNA Gateway to a NetWare for SAA profile:
  95.  
  96. 1. From a DOS workstation, log in to the network server as a supervisor or
  97. with  "supervisory  equivalent" privileges.
  98.  
  99. 2. From the directory containing the utility files, type
  100.      CONVERT
  101.  
  102. 3. You are prompted for the gateway-executable file (the file that loads
  103. the gateway). The default GWSERVER.EXE is displayed.  Press <Enter> if the
  104. default is correct. Otherwise, enter the path of your gateway filename. For
  105. example:
  106.  
  107.      F:\3270\svl\GATE1.EXE
  108.  
  109. 4. From the list of communication servers displayed, select the server that
  110. is to receive the configuration information.
  111.  
  112. 5. You will be prompted for a User Name. The default is Supervisor. Log in
  113. as Supervisor or with "supervisory equivalent" privileges.
  114.  
  115. 6. Confirm whether you want to append the configuration information on the
  116. NetWare SNA Gateway to an existing profile on the communications server.
  117.  
  118. Select NO to create a profile on the communications server. The profile is
  119. named after the NetWare SNA gateway's "Unique Server Name" field.  All PU
  120. information and LU type and model information is transferred to this
  121. profile.
  122.  
  123. If you select YES to "Append to Existing Profile," a list of existing
  124. profiles is displayed. Select the profile to which you want to transfer LU
  125. information; the PU address information on that profile will not change.
  126.  
  127. Appending allows you to consolidate LUs from several NetWare SNA Gateways
  128. into one NetWare for SAA profile. However, the maximum number of LUs
  129. transferable is restricted by the licensing for NetWare for SAA. For
  130. example, if your NetWare for SAA software is licensed for 64 sessions and
  131. you are transferring  64 LUs from the NetWare SNA Gateway, but you already
  132. have 16 LUs on a profile, this utility will transfer the first 48 LUs from
  133. the NetWare SNA Gateway. If you want to transfer the remaining LUs on the
  134. gateway, you need to upgrade your NetWare for SAA software to hold more
  135. sessions.

  137. Transfer of LUs will be aborted if the sum of LUs in the profile and in the
  138. gateway is greater than 253. For example, if your NetWare for SAA is
  139. licensed for 254 sessions, the profile already has 126 LUs and you want to
  140. transfer 128 LUs from the gateway, this utility will not append any of the
  141. LUs to your profile. However, if you reduce the number of LUs on the SNA
  142. gateway to 127, you can transfer all the LUs to the specified profile.

  144. VERIFYING TRANSFERRED INFORMATION
  145. During the conversion process, a text file is created with the NetWare SNA
  146. Gateway name and .LOG extension. This file will be in the directory where
  147. the gateway files are located. All the transferred information is logged
  148. into this file. For example:
  149.

  151. Remember to configure your workstation software.
  152. Created profile named "GWMIX2" on server "SVL_CS1"
  153. The following Configuration was transferred:
  154.      Configuration File: C:\3270\GWCAL\GWTOKEN.EXE

  156.      Network Connection: Token Ring
  157.           Destination Address:     5555 79999999 hex
  158.           Service Access Point:    04 hex
  159.           Adapter Type:       Primary

  162.      Gateway LUs 2-11 (hex) transferred as LUs 2-11 (hex)

  165. Run CSCON to verify or change the transferred PU and Public LU information.
  166.  You may need to specify PU information, for example, when you transfer a
  167. coax gateway (a coax connection gets converted to a token ring in NetWare
  168. for SAA).
  169.  
  170. NetWare for SAA provides a  more efficient pooling system than that
  171. provided in the NetWare SNA Gateway, so run CSCON to convert  the Public
  172. LUs to pools and dedicated LUs, because pooling information is lost during
  173. the conversion process.

  179. RECONFIGURING WORKSTATION SOFTWARE
  180. Once the transfer is complete, check the workstation software to see if the
  181. sessions on your workstations are compatible with those on the
  182. communications server. All LU type and model information are transferred as
  183. Public LUs.  NetWare for SAA has a more efficient pooling system than that
  184. of the NetWare SNA Gateway.  If necessary, reconfigure the workstation
  185. software to take advantage of the new pooling system.
